Aalborg Univercity (AAU)– Denmark

Aalborg University was inaugurated in 1974 as the fifth Danish university with more than 20,000 students registered and more than 2500 scientific staff. The University conducts teaching and research to the highest level in the fields of Humanities, Engineering, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Medicine, and has a long tradition for participation and successful managing and coordination of EU projects.

The Architectural Engineering division of the Department of Civil Engineering is concerned with research and education in the analysis, design, construction, and operation of engineering systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities. It focuses on an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to achieve optimal building designs, paying special attention to their impacts, on the indoor as well as the surrounding environment, especially of with  (90)  systems as the structural, energy, communications and control, lighting, acoustics, fire protection, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

Energy certification and energy assessment of buildings is one of the important topics of research and legislation in recent years, so Civil Engineering Department and its sister organization Danish Building Research Institute (SBi) (currently under merger) have worked hard to develop and improve tools for building energy and indoor climate assessment. The University has been also involved in research projects and teaching activities related to deep energy renovations, development of new technologies aiming renovation market and energy conservation.

In this respect, (91)   the Architectural Engineering division has gained extensive experience with the monitoring and analysis of real energy performance of buildings and buildings services/HVAC, energy behavior of buildings, advanced energy modelling of buildings and building performance simulations, (92)  as well as on modelling of human behavior in relation, altogether reflected to its the (93)  participation to several projects and research grants in the field of renewable energy and energy use in buildings.
